Best Practices

In 2007, Caesar and Kohler compared best practice guidelines for bilingual language assessment. For this research, they utilized descriptions by ASHA and IDEA and clinical school-based practitioners in Michigan. Best practice guidelines at the time of the study included appropriate use of translators, alternative measures including dynamic assessment, formal standardized tests, and interviewing techniques. Also, it was noted that comprehensive case histories with cultural, linguistic, and differences between families and their communities were essential for any bilingual assessment (Caesar & Kohler, 2007).
