Research

As speech-language pathologists, we usually carried our days with a heavy caseload and a lot of responsibilities. We know that is unusual to have time to keep up with research, learn about new methodologies, and trying out new best practices.

Using research to support the effectiveness of clinical practices is of high importance in our field and it’s our responsibility to provide evidence-based practices. Evidence-based practice in our field is the combination of applying the best current scientific evidence, patients’ perspectives, and clinical expertise to make decisions about the appropriate services for each one of your patients/clients (ASHA, n.d.). When we decide to use evidence-based practice with our caseload, we can make informed decisions and be confident that we're aiming to provide the best possible services. Together with this, we also comply with the ASHA code of ethics by “using independent and evidence-based clinical judgment, keeping paramount the best interests of those being served (ASHA, 2016).

As clinicians, we face different barriers in order to provide best practices when it comes to bilingual assessment. In the section below I will share some major research findings on evidence-based practices in bilingual services. You can navigate through the topics to find different articles.
